Description of contents
Tsubame Architects, a young architects' unit operating with two divisions—one focused on “Design” for creating buildings, and another on “Lab” for establishing rules for space usage and other activities before and after architectural design. This book is their first solo publication.
This book documents their practice, conceived and pursued to “make the environments we inhabit something we can manage ourselves,” on six themes.
Includes dialogues with Yurika Kano (photographer), Sayaka Ogawa (cultural anthropologist), and Akihito Aoi (architectural historian), offering multifaceted perspectives on creating architecture for navigating contemporary society.
Profile
TSUBAME ARCHITECTS
Tsubame Architects was founded in 2013 by Takuto Sando, Motoo Chiba, and Himari Saikawa.
The practice operates through two interconnected divisions: DESIGN, which focuses on architectural design, and LAB, which explores what comes before and after architecture. By working across and between these two spheres, the firm seeks new balances within architecture. Their awards include the 34th JIA Young Architect Award, the Asakura Prize at the SD Review, and the AIJ Young Architect Award for Selected Architectural Designs. https://tsbma.jp/
